In short: the professor who was going to teach that "creationism as mythology" course at Kansas University got beaten by a couple of thugs last night. The story I linked doesn't mention it, but a radio version I heard said they broke some of his teeth.

Yeah, he strikes me as painfully naive about the way the world works. Assuming that everyone on a mailing list is in favor of its topic, stopping to confront tailgaters somewhere other than a public place, etc. Heck, he's LUCKY it was just some rednecks who wanted to beat him up. Coulda been carjackers looking to kill him and take his car. Or they coulda said "You sure do have a purdy mouth..."
