[livejournal.com profile] foomf pointed out that if I cycle between two characters, I can play one while the other rests off any serious debt. Plus, of course, it lets me try multiple powersets, different servers, etc.

So, any recommendations? I do okay with the scrapper, since my usual style of "rush in and cycle through attacks until things fall down" play seems to work pretty well for them. Anything that requires a lot of keeping track of having balls in the air will not be too fun for me, due to information overload issues. And I can certainly play on a different server if someone'd rather game with me there at low levels.

ETA: After spending some time poking at the ParagonWiki, the Ice/Ice Tanker appeals to me. Probably Magic origin.

Mostly seconded, though I find masterminds a bit glitchy and annoying in a number of ways. When they work, though...

With my robotics/forcefields guy, I can buff my robots and start a fight, then leave the computer and go do something, and when I get back, they've probably cleaned up everything. And if some patrol shows up, they've probably taken care of that, too.

The only AT that can do that.

My highest level mastermind was bots/dark, which is also very nice. It does sometimes require more direct intervention, and some enemies would just destroy me (mostly Malta), but still a ton of fun.

I had my key bindings set up so that on the numeric keypad, 1-6 would select the various pets, "enter" was one buff, "plus" was the second buff, and 0 was I think "aid other." Worked pretty well.

I had the 'standard' keypad binds, and loved it. Being able to quickly send my robots in, pull them back, and so on without using the tray was great.

I didn't really enjoy the character; I started him when CoV first came back, got up to the 30s, then quit for a while. At that point, there were no radio missions, so I found Hero-side really unenjoyable. The MM was really getting annoying, because I had major 'protector bot getting stuck' problems all the time (and it was annoying noticing in time to recall the bots out or resummon).

Also, FF is fairly passive, which by mid-30s was getting very dull. All I was doing was playing support to my 'team.' And it was pretty boring support stuff, at that. At the time, I didn't appreciate how useful force bolt could be to add a little control, and didn't make a lot of use of it.

But the assault bot... wow. It was like God sending in robots... THUNK THUNK THUNK. Then all the rockets unload on mine enemies. Great visuals.

This time around, I motored the character to 50 so I could unlock VEATs (because none of my other villains were past 22). I hated it, but it was a lot easier to grind solo than others would be. Still had HUGE 'getting stuck' with protector bots, which is weird; a lot of folks I talked to never had the problem. Don't know why I'm special. There were some missions where the robots got stuck 6 times.

Robots ended up being great grinding missions in Rikti Warzone; almost immune to psi and mez. Heh.

I hear a lot of good things about bots/dark, and think I would have probably enjoyed them more. Though, in late gate, the force bubble was fantastically useful and fun.
