It turns out you can't opt out of SEEING those stupid "graphical preview" things, you can only pick whether your own LJ generates 'em. That strikes me as the exact opposite of how it should work...why should I care if others can see little graphical previews, I only care about getting rid of the stupid things when I'm reading someone else's page.

Edit: [livejournal.com profile] gary_williams has the solution! When the window pops up, click on the little gear symbol and pick "disable" from the dropdown. This will load a little control screen that lets you to tell it to go away for either just "this site" (dunno if that means all LJ, or just that particular person's journal) or for all. It's probably tied to cookies, though, so you'll need to disable it on every machine you use and re-disable if you clear your cookies. Still, it's a way to opt out, if not an obvious one.

I really don't mind the popups used on LJ, as they are only for when people post links to sites. However...I -hate- the double underlined key word search popups found on other news-type sites. Here's a random word in a paragraph, we will make an obnoxious ad popup every time you mouseover it!
