My new Nikon Coolpix 4800 just came in the mail. Sure, it's a 2004-vintage camera, but it's replacing a 2000-vintage camera. It has 8.3x optical zoom, something I was definitely looking for, and a USB connection. Only cost $200 at walmart.com, too. Contrary to the instructions, it's not necessary to install their software to upload pics, so there. :) I took a quick pic just to make sure I didn't need to install the program:

I just pointed it at a shelf of toys, let it autofocus and snapped the picture, then uploaded it and cropped to just the center. I expect actually being careful will result in an even better picture, but it's already a ton better than what my old camera can do (i.e. the Iron Chibi pic in my previous LJ entry). Once the battery charges the rest of the way, I may do some reshooting of a recent kitbash or two. :)

Mine's a bit newer than yours and was only $180 at Best Buy. Though it's probably not any better a model, all things considered. Plus it takes AAs(I opted for that over rechargeable). I probably didn't need the program, but opted to use it because it will auto-detect the camera when I hook it up, and just goes faster.
