That's a good overview of the various workarounds. A variation of the "Letter Suffix" that I sometimes use is adding an unrelated but alliterative word. I've got a Peacebringer named "Nebula Nine" and a Night Widow named "Sapphire Sigma" (who wears a blue version of the standard Widow uniform).
