This is one of the designs I've reworked on multiple occasions over the years, but never really cared a lot about (unlike, say, Solar Max). Blue costume with white stripe and a golden thunderbird on the chest is how it started, although all previous versions had a tabard as well, something that isn't an option on CoH that I could find. The character's original name is Paladin, but correctly surmising that such an obvious name would be taken I went with Paladyne...which was also taken, oops. Fortunately, CoH is okay with tossing in a hyphen.

Energy/Energy Blaster on Champion. Fell in with a sewer crew and got him up to L5 before dinner. My original afternoon plans of opening and sorting Monsterpocalypse fell through, after all....

I have also learned that random sewer groups are really dangerous...to opponent and ally alike.

Yeah, as in all things, they are better with more experienced players in the mix... Look at any given character's badges (from the "info" page) and you will be able to see veteran badges. Those are a good hint about the general teaming skills of the player (but not an absolute predictor! I have met very good new players and very bad 57-month vets.)

Here's a quick trick: If you have a new character in outbreak, you can go through the mandatory training bits and the song-and-dance-of-info-clickies.
Then when you get to Coyote (or the Arachnos Pilot, redside) you can accept the mission, then click the guy again and DROP THE MISSION. Say "Complete" at the prompt and you will be able to skip directly to going to level up and choosing your contact. There is no XP advantage to doing the Flower Knight tango or the Jenkins Bomb Rush, you can complete those parts "off-panel" and then click on your contact to go to the future of your choice. It does, however, mean it's a few days before that character can drop another mission, so that's a tradeoff.

There's a Monsterpocalypse rally at Gamestorm 11 next weekend but sadly, it doesn't fit my schedule.

Wait, it's possible to go back to Coyote after finishing the tutorial zone?

No, he's talking about skipping the Tutorial zone but still getting the free level you normally receive for completing it.

No, the steps are
1) work through the whole mess in Outbreak up thru the cop who gives you Coyote as a contact.

2) Talk to Coyote, and accept his mission.

3) close the dialog. Talk to Coyote again, and drop the mission, with the "complete" option. You will ding to L2 (except for double XP weekends, when you may well already have done.)

4) close the dialog. Talk to Coyote yet again, in order to get your "go to Atlas/go to Galaxy" dialog.

Coyote was one of the very active players' signature toon during City of Heros original beta, and the player died suddenly (I'm not familiar with the cause) ... so they added his character as the final contact in Outbreak as a tribute.

Oh, no, dropping a mission is attached to the character you're playing, not to any specific contact. You could drop a mission from (for example) Wes Schnable and then find yourself unable to drop a mission for three days from anyone else.

Oh, dropping in the "I don't want to do this" sense, rather than "dropping in front of me to be picked up" sense. Gotcha. Jargon conflict.
