The Amalgam comics gave us an Iron Lantern that mixed Silver Age Iron Man with Hal Jordan. But what about mixing with Alan Scott instead?
It's the jungles of Southeast Asia, and Alan Stark has just been fatally wounded by a Viet Cong tripwire bomb. As the VC close in on him and it's a race between whether his heart will fail first or the VC will put a bullet in him, Alan staggers into an overgrown temple. Inside is a green meteor workshiped by long-dead villagers. And it speaks to him.
"The first time I brought life. The second time I brought death. Now, the third time I flare, I bring power. Are you ready for the burden, Alan Stark?"
With the power of the meteor, Alan Stark fights off the VC, barely holding his heart together with glowing green energy. Stateside, he works the metal of the meteor into a suit of armor, plus a ring that can power his heart-saving construct at times when he's not able to wear the armor.
The ring has no power over wood, but by the time he's got the first version of the armor running, he's no longer particularly worried about that little weakness, since there's not a whole lot of wooden things that can break through armor made of an alloy of titanium mesh and meteor stone. And with his transistorized systems running on green flame, threats like Solomon Stane can simply be beaten into submission....
