Today my great-aunt Sr. Adelle Carrigan passed away, a few months shy of 99 years old. She was the youngest of three sisters. I never met the third sister, as she'd moved to California before I was born, but they're all gone now. I don't know when my one great-uncle on that side died, but my maternal grandfather passed away over 20 years ago. None of my mother's side of the family older than her generation now remain. I think I have one paternal great-aunt left, both grandmothers died within the past few years.
Sr. Adelle taught at Mount Mary College, an all-female Catholic college in Milwaukee, until about her 75th birthday, after which she retired to a convent in Elm Grove (IIRC...might be in Brookfield, it's near the border between the two) that specialized in retired nuns. She'd been in decline for a while now, and last week they removed the various tubes and life support from her, so I knew this was coming.
If there is a God, hopefully He's enough like the one she gave her life to that she's doing okay now. And she did live long enough to get to see her great-grand-nieces (or however that's constructed...her sister's great-granddaughters).

I never knew any of my grandparents siblings. My maternal grandmother is an only child.

Wow...I've heard of that school in passing, but I've never even heard mention of the convent in years. I'm amazed also at how long she lived. Imagine all she saw in that life!
I know I frequently come across as somewhat heartless, but it's not intentional. You definitely have my sympathies, and on the off-chance that there's anything I can do from the NC end, please let me know.
