Two nostalgia-heavy shows (at least for most of you reading this) hit DVD this week. The first 32 episodes of Silverhawks (expect it to be about $30 most places) and the entire series of the 1970s SF spoof Quark (about $15).

I loved how they had the plot device on their FTL. "Well, we have intergalactic FTL now. But it'll kill you unless we replace most of your body with metal." "Sign me up!" I think I'd read Rocannon's World shortly before Silverhawks started, so the idea of a lethal FTL was pretty well entrenched in my mind. :)

Reading this, I get the impression that Red Dwarf was pretty much a direct ripoff of the show with only minor changes.
