...an excuse to go home early. A substation caught fire overnight, and the campus no longer has enough power to run the chiller plant (which provides AC for most of the buildings on campus, including mine). And if demand gets too high (some older buildings have window AC units, plus just general use and fans) they may have to shut off power for all of campus entirely. Which I hope doesn't happen while I'm teaching! On the plus side, the lecture hall's been way TOO AC'ed all summer, maybe it'll be comfortable today. :) Now, time to dig out my fan....

Edit: Or...maybe not, on the fan. Magnetic field leakage from it is making my monitor image wobble. Didn't used to do that.

Another edit: Nope, lecture hall is hot and sticky, bleh.

Hippo birdies, m'good man. And yes, my floor fan's working overtime and it's still unbearable in here, moreso than usual. Gak.

At least the fact that I have a student who needs to take the final on Friday got me to write the thing yesterday, so I don't have anything pressing for today. I did cancel my usual exercise walk, though...I really don't need to be exerting myself in a building that's already warm and only going to get warmer. Maybe I'll hit the mall after lunch and mallwalk or something, to celebrate being ooooold. ;)

Older than me! Older than me! Happy Birthday, Dave, you're older than me!

And, barring weird relativistic effects, I plan to stay that way!
