The Rogues kick Bart to death. That'll teach him to ever have been a happy-go-lucky character in today's DCU.

I wasn't very impressed with post-IC "Bart" anyway. Impulse, Kid Flash, yes -- Bart as Flash, no. When they bring him back -- I'm considering this a "when" and not an "if" -- let it be young Bart, when the powers-that-be suddenly turn away from this malaise of the soul.

Still, Bart-to-corpse is a better transition than Speedball-to-emo!Penance, even if it happens at the hands feet of the Rogues.

I'm trying to think of the last major DC character who was killed by "their" major foes (quotes since Bart rarely, or only for a very short time, had ever been up against Barry/Wally's Rogues Gallery). Barry self-sacrificed/Anti-Monitor, Hal Sun Eater, Ollie self-sacrificed/random terrorists, GA Atom, Hourman, Dr. Mid-Nite by Extant/Hawk, Blue Beetle by Max Lord (OK, given some JLI issues that could count). In each case, save for Max, taking out the killer wasn't a big thing. Oh, wait, one example just occured to me; Jason Todd being killed by the Joker.

Now though, we've got what looks like Heat Wave, Captain Cold, and Weather Wizard delivering the initial crippling shots, with the rest of the Rogues involved in killing Bart. One would expect a serious posse of at least Robin, Wonder Girl, Wally, Jay, and Liberty Belle going after the Rogues, and their no longer getting revolving door privileges from Iron Heights; they break out, people would be much more serious about putting them back in.

Yeah, but 1) He and the Mist died together, so there's no vengeance needed or return appearances by the Mist and 2) Actually, it was Dr. Phosphorous who killed Ted, as he was facing imminent and painful death from radiation exposure caused cancer. He chose to die defeating The Mist when he probably didn't have to die at that particular moment.

Supposedly, according to the writer on his board, Trickster, Piper, and Mirror Master were beating on Inertia, not Bart. That's why Piper was freaking out earlier; he was afraid Bart was going to be killed. I think the artist really messed up (and the writer wasn't clear when he wrote the script).

God dammit. I swear, if DC keeps killing off all the characters I like I'm going to stop reading all of their stuff.

[livejournal.com profile] dariodevil soothed my hysterical IMs on the topic this morning by pointing out that Waid now has the keys to the Flash franchise, and Bart is his child, and that they've left it wide open for, after while, bringing Bart back in some far-less-sucky form.

Only thing that kept me from going uptown a few blocks and smacking a bitch, I can tell you.

Could you do me a favor and go uptown to smack them around for cancelling Krypto?
