Damn.
I missed the actual show (didn't know he'd be a guest), only saw a short clip on CNNHN. But then I read the transcript. Just a bunch of words that were typed in as fast as possible to throw on the web (although by the time you read this, they may have revisions up). No polishing, lots of missing words.
And it was ****ing heartbreaking. Stewart is PLEADING with Carson and Begala to do something other than party flack hackery, and they JUST DON'T GET IT. It was like watching Lot trying to find five honest men, and knowing he wasn't going to be able to pull it off. The cities of Sodom and Gomorrah are replaced by the big two political parties, but when the destruction rains down in the end, not even Lot will escape.
I can only imagine how gutwrenching the actual video of the whole thing has to be, regardless of your political leanings.

I still remember being disappointed when Stewart took over to Kilborn. I felt, as a comedy show, Kilborn had the deadpan to pull off anchorman humour. But now.. I prefer Stewart. As a news show, I think Stewart has the kind of irreverence and jovial quick wit needed to keep pace with real news. And, unfortunately for this day and age, The Daily Show has become more important as a comedy-based news show than the news-based comedy show it used to be.
