Two things have caused me to get more phone calls on my cell today than in most entire weeks.

1. Some idiot named Ron gave out my phone number as his, and I've gotten three calls for him already. It sucks when a wrong number has a better social life than I do.

2. In something [livejournal.com profile] thandrak tells me is going around, I got a voice mail from some lender claiming I'd sent them email requesting information about a home equity loan. Thus "fulfilling" the previous-relationship loophole in the Do Not Call List. And I'm sure they have convincingly forged email from me requesting that information...of course, the fact I don't own a home makes it a little less convincing, but they can always claim to have been duped by a third party scammer if I sic the government on 'em.

There are a number of websites that reference this, but perhaps having the FCC regulation number will be of help.

quote from http://www.cga.ct.gov/2004/rpt/2004-R-0957.htm

"FCC regulations (47 CFR Sec. 64. 1200) prohibit anyone from using an automated dialer or prerecorded or artificial voice (telemarketers routinely use these technologies) to call any number assigned to cell phone service or any service for which the called party is charged for the incoming call (as is often the case with cell phone service). These restrictions do not apply to calls made for an emergency purpose or when the called party has given his prior express consent."
