I'm adding a new medication called Actos (pity it wasn't Acton), and finally have all my test supplies set up. And hey, the little tubes the test strips come in can take the place of the film cases I'm almost out of, for holding little things. :)

I've been on Actos before. It's along the same principles as Avandia, I believe, though less likely to cause cholesterol issues. Right now I'm on Avandamet, though (the combo of Avandia and Metformin that keeps dropping off the radar because for months the manufacturer was having all sorts of difficulties making enough).

Strictly speaking, I'm on "actoplus met", starting with a sample pack from the diabetes education center because the pharmacy didn't have any in stock yet. Actoplus in the morning, just Metformin in the evening.

230 mg/dl after over 12 hours of no food this morning...not the best of signs. I'm told it takes 4-5 days for the Metformin to start having an effect, though, and it's only been 4 so far...we'll see Monday if it's trending helpfully.

Yeah, sometimes it takes a while for results to start showing, sometimes as much as several weeks. You may find that the doctor will adjust your dosage really high and then have to tone it back down. Or, if you have doctors like I've had in the past, you may have to fine-tune your dosage yourself (making sure you don't exceed maximum recommended doses) and tell the doctor that's what's working best for you.
