I'll be spending most of next week at the American Association of Physics Teachers national meeting at Syracuse University in Syracuse NY. Some observations under the cut:

The dorms I'll be staying in are, of course, on the ass end of campus, running up against a cemetery. There's no AC and the phone lines will not be activated. However, at least it looks to be a less than half kilometer walk to the main campus (unlike University of Utah last year). The campus commercial zone is on the other end of campus from the dorms. There does seem to be a grocery store at the dorm end of things, but it's almost as far away as the campus strip...I suppose it'll depend on which building I end up in.

While there won't be phones, there is wireless access pretty much everywhere on campus and some off-campus locations, AND it's visitor-accessible. So even if the AAPT didn't make any special arrangements, I should be able to get online with my PDA. Dunno yet what the desktop access situation will be yet, though...and the PDA is kinda limited in what I can do.

Keeping an eye on weather.com's Syracuse page. At the moment, it looks like highs around 80 and lows in the lower 60s, so the lack of dorm AC shouldn't be horrible. And I managed to get a single room, so at least I won't have to worry about keeping someone awake if the lack of AC does turn out to be problematic.

Tomorrow I'll be working out my schedule of stuff I want to attend, and calling up the conference services office to see if there's communal fridges in the dorms.

Last year, it turned out they'd rent minifridges out for the dorms, which I only knew about in advance because I spent a lot of time emailing back and forth with the conference person and asking questions. SU's events office doesn't have an email address listed on their webpage or on their snailmail letterhead. :/
