Over the years, the location where Tony Stark built his first suit of armor has changed, to reflect the sliding start of the timeline (from Vietnam to an unnamed Southeast Asian nation, to Afghanistan). I can see the next retcon going something like this....
"While out hunting with the Vice President, multimillionaire industrialist Tony Stark took a chest full of birdshot. One pellet lodged in his heart, too dangerous to leave in but too dangerous to remove. So he was forced to create an armored chestplate to keep the BB from digging deeper into his heart...."
Edit: I disabled comments from the get-go, because I know any comments will ignore the geek angle ("Gee, it's just like Tony Stark!") and just go political ("Gee, Cheney is so like a supervillain!" or whatnot) instead. Bleh.
