Well, after picking up my car from the auto trim shop that couldn't weld it, I went straight to the local Buick dealership. The guy there assured me that if I brought it in on Monday afternoon, they could fix it then and there.

I was lied to. And, of course, the guy who sold me this story wasn't working today to be confronted.

Now they're going to see if they can get me an "exclusive to high end Buicks so they might not be able to find it" assembly from a Topeka wrecker yard (about $150), and if not I'll need to pay about three times that much for a new assembly. And another $150 for labor. This is NOT a "you can just go grab a bracket from any old car" break. That's what I get for buying a used $40K car for my ten grand and not a later model simpler type, I suppose. Not that I had a lot of options, only so many car dealerships within walking distance after my previous car simply refused to start ever again (after repeated computer problems I dropped a few hundred in the previous month "fixing").

Thing is, it's not really the price that's bothering me. I no longer live from paycheck to paycheck, and dropping upwards of six hundred bucks (including the aborted welding job) on this is merely irksome, and part of owning a car. No, it's that this damned repair job is eating my life. For what everyone keeps telling me is a simple job, it's eaten two afternoons and a full day already, plus at least another afternoon coming up. It bugs me to have things that don't work (one of my quirks, part of why I've gotten pretty good at ugly but effective repairs), and I dislike having to sit around in auto repair lounges. So I've had way more than my fill of both in the past week and a half.

Joy, just got a call from the shop. The part won't be in until after closing time Tuesday, so I get to read my comics while sitting around the auto repair lounge. Hope I don't get too many Mature Readers books this week. Forgot to ask which part will be in (used $150 or new $450) and got voice mail when I called back, whee.

It's the salvage part that'll be in. Whaddyaknow, he returned my call.

Glad he returned the car. Sorry to hear about your car woes.

Well, my luck is holding true to form on this one. The salvage part is broken, so I'm going to have to shell out for a new one. And, more annoyingly, it means a delay to Friday at the earliest.
