Well, today I got an iPod Shuffle (I could have afforded a full model, but the Shuffle actually meets my needs better than a Mini or full size). And after filling it 3/4 of the way, I noticed the Free Comic Book Day Mini-Mates figure I had stuck to my iLamp monitor border..."This guy needs a Shuffle control pad on his chest."

And so I do'ed it.

And I was delighted to find out that the hole in the top of the head was just the right size for an earbud jack.

PS: that's pretty much the only way I'm gonna use the included earbuds. I find earbuds hurt and never stay in properly, so I got some earhook 'phones to use instead.

Yep! Because I want music as a PASSIVE thing. I don't want to have to think about messing with playlists or ordering while I'm actually listening. I want it to be a radio station that always gets good reception and never plays songs I hate. And if for whatever reason I don't want to listen to the song that comes up, I just hit "next". I don't do audiobooks either, although with those you just set it on playlist mode and put the books up top on the list.

That, and I want the small size, which eliminates the Mini and full-size iPod, plus most other high-memory MP3 players. And since I own a Mac, it's easier to use than another brand of MP3 player of the same size. And checking around, the prices are pretty close for anything with a 1GB memory anyway.

Well, whatever floats your cruiser, I suppose. I'd get dead sick of going "no... no... no... no... " after a while. It'd be like having... well, like having a copy of iTunes that could only do Party Shuffle. :)

As for size, I find myself wishing that the regular iPod was a little more substantial. I recognize that this makes no modern-world sense whatsoever, but see, I have a size/weight threshold below which I just don't trust gadgets. If it doesn't have a little heft to it, I become subconsciously convinced that I'm going to lose/break it...

I'm taking limited safe pocket space into account. The Shuffle slips in next to my PDA in my shirt pocket, no hassle. Not enough room in there for a Mini, though, and I'm leery of putting things in my pants pockets because of possible crushage. I don't want to have to replace all my shirts with two-pocket models just to accomodate tunes, and I'd rather not be stuck with the lanyard.
