I know the Touch doesn't have a stylus, but can it be used with one? In other words, is the screen more like a PDA screen, where any pressure will do the trick, or is it like some laptop touchpads, where only bare skin seems to work? Sometimes I want to operate my PDA while wearing gloves, or while my hands aren't as clean as I'd like, making the stylus useful, and if a Touch can be used with one, I'd just grab one of my spares and keep it with the thing should I get a Touch.

Finger only, as far as I can tell. Multi-touch functionality also means that using a stylus makes it hard to do a few things on the screen.

It uses the same sort of electroconductive control surface as the old iPod, where it needs the conductivity of flesh in order to register a touch.

You can get special styli or pens with tips that simulate that conductivity, but it wouldn't work with one of your pre-existing ones. And as [livejournal.com profile] wistling indicates, it wouldn't work with multitouch unless you got two of them and used them like chopsticks…

This is one of 2 factors making me avoid the iPod touch/iPhone(the other being the price). I don't like screen smudges from fingerprints.

Use a good screen protector and you'll barely notice them.
