The devices used to blow up cities by Veidt were called "Sub-Quantum Unifying Intrinsic Devices". SQUIDs.

D'oh.

Bad pun aside, I suppose that means that rather than subtracting the intrinsic fields, it unifies them, turning everything in the radius of effect into a single blob.

Ah..the past 2 days, people have been mentioning the S.Q.U.I.D. acronmyn to me having been on one of the moniotrs, but I didn't know what plot element they refered to.

Well they also had the opening to the Outer Limits in the final scene which is a nod to the graphic novels original ending.
