There's a fairly easy fix for Lugnut if pushing one side closed first isn't working. It means the mechanism inside his chest has been tightened too much. Open him up and loosen the screw on the mechanism a tiny bit until the cockpit stays shut. There's a little tab on the back of the cockpit support arm that needs to slide behind the locking mechanism to hodl it in place, and when the mechanism is tightened too far, the piece can't rotate far enough to latch behind it. Give me about 10 minutes and I'll post a pic of the problem area.
Take his chest apart (you don't have to completely dismantle it like I did, you can leave the cockpit attached) and just slightly unscrew that screw I've circled in red. Not TOO much, or the latch will have too much room after it's locked behind the mechanism and will wobble in alt mode.
Okay, tried that...the cockpit won't spring all the way open at the slightest provocation now, but neither does it stay all the way closed. There's a 1-2 millimeter gap.
Well, you could always TIGHTEN the screw back up a little and shave down the latching tab just a bit after you've done so. There IS a sweet spot on that little screw. Try it in steps of like 1/8th of a turn. It's crazy I know, but I've fixed three different Lugnuts doing nothing more than experimenting with that one little screw.
I'm not big on the Animated look, but Grimlock is tempting me due to the G1 updates- better than the Classics version, anyway. Not that I can justify enough on ANY toy to purchase a vintage Grimlock. Is he a rather bulky toy in both modes? I want something that's going to be noticable on a shelf. I don't care for the $20 toys that look like they'd be better suited for the old $15 size class. Movie Blackout was an utter disappointment in that regard and I don't wish I get burned again on another letdown.
