On hearing that the English Department here at K-State had done a conference on Science Fiction, I poked around a bit to see if anyone was currently doing scholarly research on it. As the Cultural Studies Faculty Page shows, the answer to that is yes. But page down a bit to Professor Potts...what an interesting juxtaposition of topics. :) (The page her link leads to isn't quite so interesting, sadly.)

Donna Potts is made of raw, unmitigated awesome. I need to have coffee with her now that we're both back on campus again. I was very lucky to have her when taking Old English, too.

The daughter of our colloquium speaker today got a BS in Physics and is working on a MA in English, her thesis being on societal statements in The Handmaid's Tale. So...yeah. ;) Then again, I know a guy who did his PhD on Lord of the Rings.

Well, my presentation for Irish lit was on Garth Ennis. You would not believe how perfectly the characteristics of the more traditional Irish writers fit Ennis in general and Preacher specifically. (Also see The Butcher Boy as its perfect antecedent as much as anything in the ninth art.)
