My niece Marah (about 1.5 years old) was along at a kiddie book signing the other day. The author was accompanied by someone in a big hedgehog costume. Marah took one look at this pantomime hedgie and started shrieking, "Big! Big!" in recognition of the unnatural size of the beast. It freaked her right the heck out.

Apparently she's okay with hedgehogs in general, but not freakishly large ones. My sister wonders how Marah's gonna deal with Halloween costumes....

Just remember Robin Williams' comment about taking his kid to Disneyland;

"You try and do special things for your kid. I thought "I'll take him to Disneyland. That'll be fun." Disneyland for a three year old... Mickey Mouse for a three year old... bullshit. Mickey Mouse to a three year old is a six foot fucking rat!"

Just so long as she's briefed not to attack anything that may be mis-interpreted as a threat, it can't be that risky...Halloween just takes some getting used to at that age, that's all.

It depends on whether she's taught that panicky shrieking fear is a proper response to the unexpected.
