With the announcement that Justice O'Connor is retiring, yet another round of Republican whining has kicked off. Oh, the Democrats are spiteful obstructionists, who would never let any nominee be passed, and who will filibuster if it looks like there will be a vote. They're big meanies and never let us do anything!
BULL.
The Republicans own the Executive, Judicial AND Legislative branches. Bush has gotten a higher percentage of his judicial nominees approved that ANY OTHER PRESIDENT IN AMERICAN HISTORY, so Republicans pretty much own the lower courts too. When Bush can't get something rammed through, it's as likely as not that dissent within his own party is the reason.
Republicans have no leg to stand on when it comes to whining about Democrats being obstructionist. And they come across as the playground bully who already gets everyone's lunch money, but complains that other kids are being mean by making him beat them up, and why can't they get with the game plan and just hand over their money?
Republicans run things. They have the right to be smug, I can handle that. Winners get to be smug, it's the way of the world. But they do NOT get to whine about the fact they don't win 100% of the time. That's just childish and venal.
