One, my 97 year old grandma pulled through the weekend, so she should be okay again for a while.

Two, I've been nominated to be on a committee within the American Association of Physics Teachers, which means I need to make every effort to attend the winter meetings in addition to the summer ones. Including and especially the meeting in January 2006...in Anchorage Alaska.

Yep, the same process that gave us the summer meeting in San Antonio is working at full capacity. Now, I actually don't mind TOO much the whole cold and dark thing. As long as I can get a room in the conference hotel (which I'd pretty much insist on, I think), it's not much of an issue.

No, my real problem is that the trip would involve around ten hours on one airplane or another, not counting the time spent in airports. That, and the conference is in late January, so it'll conflict with the start of classes here.

Still, I'm considering going. I can get someone to cover for me here (assuming I'm still working at KSU), and I think what I'd do about the flight is to see if any of my friends in the Seattle area would be willing to put me up for a night on either direction, so I don't spend more than 5-6 hours in the air at most each day. And get to hang out with people I've hitherto only known online. And do it on the department's dime, too. :)
