*A* comic for Sept 22

     Comedy of errors at the comic shop today.  First, I find that the UPS
truck from Colorado has broken down (second time this year), so comics will
be delayed until Thursday.
     I figure, okay, at least I can check to see if War Within v3 is on the
shipping list, those arrive electronically.
     "Hey, could you check the list to see if Transformers War Within is due
in?" 
     "Which comic?"
     "Transformers," I look down.  Point at the comics partially covered by
some invoices.  "That one.  There.  How did that get there?"
     They weren't on the shelf Wednesday.  Or on Sunday.  After some head-
scratching, we reconstructed what must have happened.  
     While sorting comics last week, the owner noticed that the store had
been shorted half the copies of War Within they ordered.  So he set it aside,
intending to call Diamond to ask what the problem was.  Then he got
distracted (he has to run the store alone while the usual Wednesday help is
off on a study abroad in Japan), set something on top of the comics without
realizing it, and there they stayed until today.
     Anyway, while the rest of my comics are delayed, at least I have this
one.  :)

     Transformers the War Within v3 (The Age of Wrath) #1 (of 6): Dreamwave -
I picked up the variant cover that gives away the last page.  Oops.  Joe Ng's
art is generally good (if a tad bulky), but at least one of the three
colorists is solidly mired in murk.  The other two are okay.  In terms of the
story, things pick up some time after The Dark Ages, with Ultra Magnus
demonstrating quite conclusively that he can fill Optimus Prime's boots in
every way, including the angst.  Of course, things fall apart pretty quickly,
or else we wouldn't have a conflict for the arc.  :)  I do like how Furman
managed to set things up at the end so that it's not clear whether everything
is part of one person's plot, or if two are kicking in at the same time to
the dismay of the plotters.  Recommended.  $2.95
