Just got back from my appointment with the diabetes education nurse. We went over some of the basics of the condition, the mechanics of my medicine (i.e. the fact I took it half an hour before dinner last night was a Really Bad Idea, also, the fact that it helps reduce insulin resistance while also keeping the liver from squirting out excess sugar as often), and some other general stuff. Got weighed on one of those body fat scales (244lbs, 28% fat, down from a while back).
My glucose meter is a One Touch Ultra 2, shiny. It can do arm readings, but those have a 15 minute or so wiggle room in the time, compared to relatively exact timing on a finger stick. So, it's okay to use it for "first thing in the morning" testing, but not for "two hours after a meal". I'm to test before and two hours after breakfast and dinner, which means taking the meter to work with me, since I don't get to hang out at home for two hours after breakfast most days. :) Weekends could get tricky, since I'm often out shopping or at the comic shop two hours after breakfast. Anyway, tried it out, poked the side of the finger, no pain to speak of. Blood sugar two hours after second lunch was in the 320s again, but hey, I've only been on meds for a day and haven't lost weight yet to speak of. :)
Have an appointment with the dietician next Monday, and sometime before then I need to bug Dr. Poell for a prescription for testing strips, since I only have a 2-4 day supply (the low end assumes I screw up several strips), and I don't wanna drop $100 out of pocket for a bottle. Probably gonna do that on the way home from work tomorrow.
