Spoilers for Superman Returns. Click on the cut link at your peril!

Okay, Superman's behavior regarding Lois Lane in Superman Returns verges on "can I get a restraining order here?"

First off, he hovers outside her house and spends several minutes looking inside and listening to her conversation with her fiancee, Richard White (played by James Marsden with tons better acting than he did in any of the X-Men movies). Dude, he's stalking her. He wasn't there to make sure she was okay after rescuing her, or because he thought she was in danger...he just wanted to go see her at home without her seeing him.

Second, and this involves the Big Addition To The Mythos spoiler (which is "Lois's kid is Superman's"), he doesn't even seem to consider telling Lois that he had sex with her in Superman II. By the end of the movie, she's pretty damn sure it happened, but thanks to the Magic Kiss, she doesn't recall it. It also implies a pretty compressed timeline after Superman II (and yes, in case you're still wondering about it, this is very much a sequel to that movie, ignoring Superman III and IV). Superman had to have left almost immediately after Superman II, and Lois had to have taken up with Richard White within a couple of weeks of that, in order for Richard to think Lois's child was his. Okay, maybe a half-Kryptonian hybrid would have a slightly longer gestation time, but even so, we're talking some bitter rebound sex on Lois's part soon after Superman's departure in order for the illusion of parentage to be possible.

In any case, between Superman finding out the kid is his, and the end of the movie, there's no place for him to have come clean with Lois about the mindwiped nookie. Maybe they're saving that emotional conflict for the next movie, but for now it looks like Superman's just gonna let Lois hang, and come up with all sorts of worrisome theories regarding the conception. The BEST light this can be put in is "Lois did remember the super-sex but none of the other stuff, and was lying all the times in Superman Returns where she denied sleeping with Superman and claimed the kid was Richard's."

For the most part, I think this is mostly a case of the creative team not fully thinking things through, not a deliberate attempt to make Superman look like a heel. But it's still creepy.

It's also possible that the Big Red S banged Lois a few times before he left, too, and it was only the first time that took, since that's when he was technically "human."

You know, considering all the good press the movie's had, this is the first negative note I've read. Is this important enough to avoid the movie?

Nah. That and the excessive length of the denounment are really my only significant criticisms of the movie. Otherwise good, and worth seeing in the theater.
