Okay, this strikes me as being the result of anti-drug ads gone horribly wrong. You know, all those anti-huffing ads that compared huffing to drowning or asphyxiation? While the Wikipedia entry says it goes back to the 80s, I can't help but think it's taking off now because some kids saw those anti-huffing ads and though, "Wait...if huffing is like choking, choking must be like huffing! And no one can stop be from buying the stuff for it!"
The cranky old coot in me says, "Why, in my day, we did auto-erotic asphyxiation! These punks left out the most important part!"
(No, I never actually tried auto-erotic asphyxiation. I like my brain cells too much.)
Anyway, at least it's distracting the "OMG TEH CHILDRUN!" people in the local media away from their "Every one of your neighbors is probably a rapist who wants to eat your babies" reporting.
