Saw my first dead bat inside Cardwell Hall today. We normally see a few bats every year, clinging to the corner between wall and ceiling or fluttering about, but this is the first time I saw one just sitting on a step. In fact, the first time I saw it (I was doing laps for my morning exercise) I thought it was an abandoned glove or something. Bat + Floor isn't something I'm used to, so it didn't even register. But on the second lap I realized it was a bat, and that it hadn't moved in reaction to my proximity...sure, it could've been asleep, but I figured it was probably dead. So I pulled out my cell and called facilities, who came by during my fifth lap and took the carcass off for disposal. Poor little bat.

Yet another reason you should keep bottled water and live mealworms on hand, so when you find one of these little refugees you can help him.

Though in the state you found this one, maybe a little defibrillator made from a 9-V battery would have been better.
