T'Chaka is killed in a hotel room in Europe (Switzerland, IIRC, he's there as part of another attempt by Western powers to get their hands on Wakandan tech by diplomatic means) by Ulysses Klaw, assassin for hire (who is then given a cyborg eye and hand by his employers after losing them in the fight). Dane Whitman gets the Ebony Blade from a shadowy organization under the Vatican that seeks to use him to launch a new crusade against the pagans in Africa.
