Huckabee's on TV giving his "we win!" speech. In the tight focus shot, two people are visible over his shoulders. His wife, naturally, and...well-known supporter Chuck Norris. Heh.
Chuck Norris wasn't actually there, but that camera was once pointed at Chuck Norris, and his image was burned into it. The only reason the camera didn't explode with awesomeness is that it wasn't turned on at the time.
Huckabee might actually go up around five points if he announced that he'd pick Chuck Norris as his VP and "diplomatic representative" who'd be sent to the Middle East, North Korea, etc. to "take care of things".
Shit. Chuck Norris supports Huckabee? Well, everybody else might as well give up. Otherwise, Chuck might demonstrate the fervency of his support by killing all of the others.
I figured since *I* happen to like Huckabee, he didn't stand a chance. I honestly was confused, though, at how they could claim that they could say Obama and Huckabee won Iowa with only 15% of the areas reporting. That's not a great percentage to draw conclusions on, is it?
The joys of statistics, really. They've got loads of historical data to tell them how likely it is for late returns to skew strangely, plus they can compare entrance polling from the not-yet-in places to how similar entrance results yielded final numbers.
It helps that both Obama and Huckabee pulled large enough margins that there was little danger of late precincts changing things much. They probably could've confidently projected a winner on only 5%, but wanted to avoid egg on their face so waited a bit.
Wow...Meanwhile, if I so much as LOOK at a lottery ticket, the numbers magically change themselves to be wrong. One of many reasons I don't gamble. It's just not fair...
Actually, that woman behind Huckabee's right shoulder is Gena Norris. Huckabee's less, eh, traditionally attractive spouse is just to his immediate left, out of frame in most of the headline shots.
