If you have a cold, and are prone to "body alienation" fever dreams, it's really not a good idea to watch Ghost In The Shell right before bed.

It's no fun waking up and briefly thinking that the clumped up bedclothes are parts of your own body that have been hacked by a hostile force and have detached themselves and gone limp. Or to actually be relieved that you're coughing fit to toss a lung, since it means that at least your torso is still real.

Just musing on the nature of running a mystery in either a tabletop or online game (one run by a person, not by code). There's a spectrum that goes from "running on rails" at one end, to "wherever the wind might blow" at the other. After a quick lj-cut, I will expand on this.

Could also call it absolute reality versus consensual reality. )
In short: have some plans and stick to them, but be willing to bend reality if your players run off in the wrong direction.
