A sad comment on the media

Anna Nicole Smith has died mysteriously and without much warning. Okay, she's a celebrity, so this is certainly news, and merits coverage.

But Headline News has gone into "drop everything, even ads, and cover this story continuously" mode on the news. (Edit: due to a lack of anything better to watch, I've had it on in the background for an hour now, and no ads. They ALMOST threw to an ad just now, but were told not to.)

Siiiiigh.

Last time they did this with a 'celebrity' it was when OJ may have murdered his ex and the innocent bystander, and it was the 1000 hours of following the Slow White Blazer.

Perhaps they have clues of some sort of sordid, sales-attracting kinky relationship or murderous russian spy.

Well, now they're talking about how maybe her baby was born with a methadone addiction, and that she had been on it since before the pregnancy. Dude, Gerald Ford didn't get this kind of coverage.

I'm stunned at what passes for news today. The best news EVER comes fro the Daily Show. Scary when a fake news show is more realistic and newsworthy than so called "real" news.

Countdown with Keith Olbermann is the best of the "straight" news shows, IMO. At least they spent more time on Scooter Libby than Anna Nicole.
