Theory Into Practice

About halfway between my apartment and campus is a rather tall hill (this is the hilly part of Kansas). When going in the direction of work, it's theoretically possible to go into the downhill at the speed limit (30mph) and then not touch the gas, all the way to the parking lot. This requires hitting two stoplights just right and not having anyone in front of you who wants to turn left or anyone behind you who will be pissed off during the 20 mph stretch of coasting on the second small hill. I've managed to pull off the lesser coast several times, turning off into the comicshop's lot before the second stoplight and coasting/idling into a parking spot. That second stoplight is really hard to get past, since there's often someone trying to make a left turn there (there's no left turn lane), and then it's also hard to get up the small rise into the parking lot without stalling out and needing to hit the gas to actually get to a parking spot.

But today, for the first time in the two years I've been driving this route, I managed the Grand Coast. From the top of the hill to a full stop in a parking space at work, no touching the gas pedal. Yay! What was once merely a theoretical possibility has now been placed firmly in the realm of the actual.

Now, to shift gears for a second, Magic Shave depilatory does not work for me. I may have the razor bump symptoms that cause black men to turn to this product, but I don't have the right kind of hair. It removed the surface hair, but my beard grew back as if I'd only shaved. And considering that I still have a rash on my neck three days later, the Magic Shave went in the Circular File.

Magic Shave doesn't work for me, either. It takes the hair off, but I get that rash.

Didn't even take the hair off long-term. I could have lived with the rash if it meant I wouldn't have to shave for a few weeks or so.

Oh, and yeah, Magic Shave only takes the hair off right at the surface. If your normal shave is very close, Magic Shave won't do any better.

Aw, sorry about the beard story. And yay, coasting into actuality!
