After being without my car for 24 hours, I find that the metal the brackets are made of is unweldable (probably an aluminum alloy), at least by the welder at the shop I took it to. So now I do have to spend the money to replace the brackets, and blow another day or so (which I can't afford to do again until next Thursday) for the work. (And no, they're not interchangeable with the passenger side brackets, I just called to ask.)

I was planning to head into Topeka tomorrow, but now I'm not so sure I want to leave town. Grrrr.
