Nerf Maverick rules

I saw a picture of the Nerf Maverick while poking around on someone else's friends page (I think it was [livejournal.com profile] redneckgaijin's), and snagged one on sale today at Target for seven bucks. It rocks. The grip is sized for adult hands, and it's basically a short-barrelled .40 Nerf revolver with an impressively big cylinder that can be popped out for loading (and snapped back in by flicking your wrist). Only one shot per pull-back of the spring, but it fires pretty forcefully. About a 9-10 inch drop when fired from about 16 feet. Each pull of the trigger rotates the six-shot cylinder and (if primed) fires. It has the mandatory orange barrel tip, but is otherwise mostly dark blue and golden yellow, not too tacky as Nerf goes. It has a nice heft, weighing about a pound (0.44 kg), and the total length is 11" (28cm). There's a little clip for attaching it to another new Nerf gun, but it looks stupid if you do so.

Addendum: the rear half actually looks more like an automatic pistol, a la the Browning 1911. The cylinder is where the barrel normally would be.

Better detail at Hasbro's Nerf Maverick Page (http://www.hasbro.com/pl/page.viewproduct/product_id.15953/dn/nerf/default.cfm).

I have a Nerf bazooka. Well, it's an off-brand, but still, BAZOOKA.

I've got something like that around too. But for handgun-sized power, the Maverick still rocks.

You can also go all John Woo with the two-handed action.

Experimentally, I can empty the entire cylinder in about 5 seconds. It's like a really sawed off pump shotgun. Two-gun mojo won't really work, though, since they do need to be manually cocked.

Yeah, rate of fire does drop significantly when you use two guns, but it's so stylish....

Yeah, that gun absolutely rocks. I have two of them for the aforementioned mojo. I've gotten the cocking down pat for two guns, and even in a nerf-war pinch, two shots is better than one :) I highly recommend picking up a pack of the whistling mini-darts, especially if you have cats :)

Just saw the new Firefly pistol from the same line, (not Serenity-related) and it's pretty hot as well.

Here's a link to the Firefly (http://www.hasbro.com/pl/page.viewproduct/product_id.16523/dn/nerf/default.cfm).

I may check for one at Wal-Mart today. If they even have their summer fun toys remaining. Possibly the Firefly too.

Grabbed both plus a dart refill pack today. They had a few Nerf guns stacked in some back aisle.

Both are pretty neat. Both also have the same attachment clip on them. Nothing attaches to the Firefly. Firefly has a light-up chamber and glow stickers for the darts.
