Adventures in etailing

So, this morning I tried to order some sugar-free candy online (none of the local stores carry the brand any more, and I like it independent of the sugar-free-ness). I forgot to enter my email address and got sent back to fill it in.

Apparently, when this happened, it wiped my physical address from the sheet and then didn't complain when I re-submitted without a shipping address. So they called my contact phone (which wasn't erased) at work, but I was teaching, so they got my answering machine.

Then, somehow, they got ahold of the number for our group secretary and called her, confusing the heck out of her and not saying what this was all about until she'd given them my shipping address at work.

I do have stuff sent to work sometimes (if it's FedEx, or something expensive enough I don't want to risk it being left at my door), but two pounds of candy ain't in either category. ;)

Anyway, someone's e-store has broken elements, eh?

Whoops somebody forgot to have their form keep field values going backwards as well as forwards... tsk tsk.

Does your phone have the secretary's number or a blanket "if you can't reach this person try #######" as part of the message?

Nope, I don't have her number in my OGM. However, they grabbed my institution name from the OGM and then googled for a Dave Van Domelen at Kansas State and got the group secretary's number. ;)

That seems like an awful lot of work when they could just email you and await your reply.
