That's a good point, really, and I think you're onto something. Family is important, but it's disheartening to see these characters purely in such narrow terms, especially through the lens of such a length of time. And yes, far too much was left unsaid for a proper epilogue.
I still think that "Rose" and "Hugo" are JKR's way of telling us that Ron lost the fight to name them "Optimus Prime" and "Padme."
Me, I'd lose the epilogue and give Trelawney a stab at the future. She's due some insight here any day now.
