A little alt-DCU musing

In a DC Universe where Ted Kord wasn't sacrificed on the altar of megacrossovers, he might eventually have created a little something like this for Barbara Gordon:

Based on the Kenguru, something pointed out to me by Blue Beetle and Oracle fan [livejournal.com profile] jarodrussell. I took some liberties with internal space, but the idea is that Oracle can wheel into her custom Kenguru and drive around Gotham, transforming to mech mode if fight is preferred to flight. The paint scheme is actually a flexible LED coating, which can show the Blue Beetle color scheme (default), a more subdued civilian look, or even a limited chameleon mode (most effective at night or in shadows). The headlights are modified with the old BB gun tech flashpops and compressed air blasts.

Note: the shoulder connections should probably be a little bit farther forward so that the hip connections aren't "magical" as in the sketch above. :)

For some reason, I have this strong, strong urge to say: PWN3D! I don't even know who got "pwned," really, but that's what comes to mind. That said...

Bitchin' design. I had something more like a Cyclone (http://www.artemisgames.com/robotech/Veritech/cyclone_gallery.html) in mind when I was thinking about, but honestly this works so much better with the characters and the DCU technology.

You have made my day, good sir!

Oh, hey, is it okay if I shrink this down and make an LJ icon from it?

Go for it. I considered more of a folding panel design to wrap around the driver like a Cyclone, with the wheelchair folding up and sticking to the back, but I ended up going with a simpler design.

Oh, it works too! The Cyclone idea was based around her pretty much going cyber, but that's a pretty clear violation of established characterization. This design, however, fits beautifully with both her character and Kord's technology.

I like to keep my mechs away from my Batmans.

Hah! and Fie!

They already HAD the BatMech on the series "The Batman" a good, what, year ago?

[identity profile] dvandom.livejournal.com 2006-06-23 12:11 am (UTC)(link)
Well, the BatMech doesn't exactly refute recharge's position....

http://www.dvandom.com/kitbash/batmanHoC.JPG however, may. :)

Ah, but the fact of it appearing in 'canon' (at least so far as the show goes) is what makes further explorations of the concept completely kosher. Having opened the garden gate, the animals are freely grazing, so to speak.

Doesn't deter from my preferences.

This is true, but other people have gotten peanut butter all over their bat-mecha :) (Yes, I _am_ really reaching for metaphors, thank you for noticing!)

Nifty.

It's so ... Beetle. It's perfect.
