Car shopping, part 2: Matrix
Just test drove a vanilla Matrix 2WD (no XR on the end). Good sight lines, liked the controls, although a little tight (seat at its lowest and steering wheel at its highest and I still bang my thigh against the wheel getting out). Handled my hill test, merging test and parking test well, but the initial acceleration out onto the 45mph road outside the dealership was...disappointing. I had the pedal to the metal and was not really accelerating that well. I'm told this sort of thing gets better on its own after the car is broken in, and acceleration from 40-60 was good, but....
The standard package is good, but I'd definitely want to add on cruise control and power windows/locks/etc. The LCD dials would take a bit of getting used to after six years of physical dials, but before that I had an all-LED dash, so it's not like I can't deal with non-physical gauges.
