-1 Disingenuous for the Topeka city government
Just an observation, there's other places to discuss this issue if you're so inclined.
There's a proposal up for passage by the Topeka city council that would bar anyone on the Icky Crims List (aka the Sexual Offenders Registry) from moving into a home within 2000 feet of a school or clearly labeled daycare center. When I first heard this, my reaction was, "Step 2: found a daycare center or school every 2000 feet inside city limits."
Last night on the news (which seems to think that anything that will bring us closer to rounding up sex offenders and shooting them is a good idea), there was a brief shot of someone holding a city map with yellow circles representing the 2000 foot exclusion zones.
Pretty much the entire city was yellow. This, of course, explains the 2000 foot zone instead of the usual 500 foot zones you see for things like drugs and guns. It's just enough to let them ban sex offenders from living in Topeka without actually passing a (probably unConstitutional) law banning them from living in Topeka explicitly. Way to go, fearmongering lawmakers!
