Oddly, the bit with the Kryptonians was adapted almost exactly from the comic - I think the only thing left out was the moon getting repaired. It WAS very rushed even in the comic, and honestly I felt that it should have been left out in favor of, among other things, Superman convincing a little girl not to commit suicide.
