Continuing adventures in rice

Okay, picked up a Rival rice cooker/steamer today ($15 at Target, dunno what I'm ever going to want to steam, but it's good to have the option) and a bag of extra long grain white rice to start with. It strikes me that white is a little more forgiving, plus the carb difference between white and brown was negligble in the brands I checked (I guess the boil-in-bag type has such a big difference due to the effects of the pre-cooked nature).

Due to misreading the instructions, I almost used four times too much water (the cooker came with a special measuring cup for rice and I goofed on unit conversion in one step) but caught it before plugging in. The rice came out nicely fluffy, if a bit sticky. Also, the rice cooked at lower than boiling, so it didn't retain quite enough heat to fully melt all the added ingredients...gonna have to put 'em in a saucepan and pre-warm (no microwave) next time. Then just eat out of the saucepan, since I'm a bachelor.

Went with 1/2 cup of rice, about 60g of carbs (as opposed to about 90g for a single bag of boil-in-bag). Also had a smaller than normal cup of milk, maybe 8oz instead of 10oz. Now to wait two hours and see how the blood sugar likes it. Normally I wouldn't be having rice two days in a row, but since I'm in experimenting phase, I figured things would be different enough to avoid getting tired of it. :)

A bit more clean-up involved, since I don't intend to eat right out of the cooker bowl. That's a quick way to wreck the no-stick coating, as I've found with other cookware.

Update: 148 mg/dl, a little high, but not as bad as "the usual". Plus, of course, now I can tweak levels down as desired.
